THOMAS BJORN said Europe have no fear of Tiger Woods as the American superstar arrived in France for this week’s Ryder Cup.
On Sunday the former world No.1 beat the best players in the world in Atlanta to win the Tour Championship – his first title for more than five years. Woods is now the favourite to win his 15th Major at next year’s Masters. And US captain Jim Furyk said the win gave his team “a nice buzz” before they bid to triumph on European soil for the first time since 1993.
But opposing skipper Bjorn said his team will relish taking on a fully fired-up Tiger. “We want to see him at the top of the game,” he said. “He
does so much for golf. Tiger Woods winning golf tournaments is brilliant for the game and we all benefit from it. The game of golf needs that boost of somebody like him who transcends the sport.
“But these are 24 of the best players in the world and they are all capable of amazing things. We respect our opponents and know what we are up against but we don’t fear anyone because we’ve played against them so many times before.”
