DNA fight to halt malaria
MALARIA could be wiped out using DNA technology developed in Britain that makes mosquitos infertile.
The disease-carrying Anopheles gambiae were given a mutant gene to make their offspring infertile, crashing lab populations in eight generations.
The Imperial College London team hope the “gene drive” technique could be used in the wild within five years.
Leader Professor Andrea Crisanti said: “We need more tools in the fight.”
