Record number of men getting to 100
MORE men are reaching the age of 100, figures show.
The number last year stood at a record 2,470.
And the gap between male and female centenarians has closed over the past 15 years, according to the Office for National Statistics.
The group’s Ngaire Coombs said: “There were fewer than five women centenarians for every man in 2017, down from over eight in 2002.”
More men are living longer than 90. But the overall number of people reaching 100 fell from 14,510 in 2016 to 14,430 in 2016.
