Fury over ghost night at station that held killer

POLICE have sparked fury after flogging £75 tickets to spend the night in serial killer Fred West’s cell.

The West Midlands force is holding a Halloween sleepover at Birmingham’s Steelhouse Lane station, where he was held over 12 murders at his home.

An ad for the event promises guests “a unique opportunity to spend an entire night on a Ghost Hunting Mission within the Victorian Lock Up”.

It says: “These cells were occupied by none other than the original Peaky Blinders, Fred West and many more.”

But police were accused of “glorifying” West’s horrific crimes.

Mum-of-three Victoria Sanderson, 45, branded the event “distasteful and highly insensitive”.

She said: “It’s fine to hold a fun ghost hunting event but police have gone too far promoting the fact Fred West was there. How on earth will the families of those he murdered feel about the fact he is being celebrated by the police?”

Andrew Tabin posted: “Just shows how desperate the police are to make a few bob if they’ve resorted to pimping out a murderer’s cell.” Greg Yates added: “What the hell are the cops playing at?”

The force said: “The Ghost Hunting Mission, run independently of West Midlands Police, is an event to raise money for modern slavery charity Hope for Justice.

“Steelhouse Lane is where Fred West was held. On reflection the organiser has agreed using his name was insensitive and has removed it from any advertising of this event.” West hanged himself in jail on New Year’s Day 1995 while awaiting trial for the horrific murders at his Gloucester home.

Wife Rose, 64, is serving a full-life term for her part in 10 of the deaths, including her daughter Heather, 16.
