“It’s fate,” guffawed Eamonn Holmes, 58, as he cosied up to Love Island’s Laura Anderson, 29, at the Best Heroes awards – which wife Ruth Langsford didn’t attend.

Laura admitted on this summer’s show that she had a secret crush on the presenter, much to his delight. Eamonn, who is double her age, quipped on the red carpet:

“I’m here without Ruth... Laura has split from her man... Meet the new Mrs Holmes.”
