POG BARRED

Mourinho gets tough with Old Trafford record signing and tells him: You’ll never captain Man United again

- BY DAVID McDONNELL

JOSE MOURINHO has told Paul Pogba he will not captain Manchester United again – in a clear attempt to force the midfielder out of Old Trafford.

Pogba was left stunned after Mourinho broke the news in front of the squad at the training ground ahead of last night’s EFL Cup tie against Derby. The United boss told the £89million Frenchman, who has been captain three times this season, he would never do so again because he lacked the qualities required of a leader.

Mourinho was furious at Pogba’s role in Wolves’ equaliser

as they held United to a 1-1 draw on Saturday, with the midfielder failing to track back after losing the ball.

After the game Pogba accused Mourinho of holding United back with his negative tactics, which proved the final straw for the selftitled Special One.

He chose to exact his revenge in brutal fashion, publicly humiliating the France World Cup winner in front of his team-mates for maximum impact.

The latest bust-up between Mourinho and his most high-profile player seems destined to end with Pogba leaving United next summer, with Barcelona, Paris SaintGermain and his former club Juventus all competing to sign him.

If United allow Pogba to leave they are likely to demand a world record fee in excess of £200m for him.
