Role wasn’t to dye for

Bradley couldn’t go grey for Dr Who... so he had to wear a wig

BRADLEY Walsh was glad he needed to “age up” with grey hair to play a grandad in his 60s on Doctor Who.

But he was not allowed to dye his hair, as it would have looked odd on his ITV quiz show The Chase, so he had to wear a wig. Brad, 58, said: “Fortunately, at this moment, I’m not too grey. I’ve never worn a wig before, I quite liked it. I liked the transformation, it was excellent.” And he joked: “I’m having one made for weekends – blond and curly.”

In the new series, with Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor, his character Graham is joined by two new companions – Ryan, played by Tosin Cole, and Yasmin, acted by Mandip Gill.

Graham is married to Sharon D Clarke’s character, Grace, making him Ryan’s step-grandad.

At the series premiere in Sheffield, Bradley said he was “thrilled” with the show.

He added: “I’m a 14-year-old kid in a 58-year-old’s body.” Jodie, 36, said she was “really proud” to do her own stunts – including a leap filmed 60ft in the air.

She admitted “bricking it” but added: “I was obviously on a wire, we were about 60 feet up. There was nothing about it that wasn’t safe, but it is nerve-racking.

“It’s not something you do every day. But I love watching it, knowing that I did do it all.”

Doctor Who, BBC1, Sunday October 7, 6.45pm.
