Kids will get RAF pension of sick mum

- BY RICHARD VAMPLEW

A TERMINALLY ill mum has won her battle for her RAF pension to go to her two children.

Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson intervened to ensure it will go to Grace, five, and Rory, two, until they are 21.

Samantha McConnell, from Lincoln, was recently told she had cancer and had only weeks to live.

With no close relatives or partner, the 46-yearold’s pension for 20 years’ service as a linguist was to cease when she died.

Her IVF children were ineligible as they were born beyond nine months of her leaving the forces.

But an ex-RAF pal’s petition was successful.

Ms McConnell said: “Floods of relief and joy are mixed with sadness that this is even necessary.”
