Campaigners jailed for 4-day lorry demo at fracking base

- BY KIM PILLING

THREE protesters who climbed on lorries outside a fracking site and refused to come down for four days have been jailed for causing a public nuisance.

Simon Blevins, 26, of Sheffield, and Richard Roberts, 36, of London, got 16 months, while Rich Loizou, 31, from Devon, got 15 months after being convicted at an earlier trial.

Sentencing them at Preston crown court for their actions at shale extraction firm Cuadrilla’s base in Little Plumpton, Lancs, in 2017, Judge Robert Latham said: “I do find they provide a risk of re-offending. “Each [is] motivated by unswerving confidence they are right. Given the disruption, only custody can achieve sufficient punishment.”

The three hugged as they were led away.

Julian Brock, 47, of Torquay, Devon, who had pleaded guilty, got one year’s jail, suspended.
