My son and daughterin-law faced the same dilemma as the couple who wrote to you about wanting a quiet wedding (Dear Coleen, Aug 28).

They’d been together 21 years before deciding to get married. They chose a register office and, a week later, had a lovely meal with 16 close relatives.

It was better than a big flashy wedding which can be a long, drawn-out day for everyone. My daughterin-law still wore a wedding dress and my son was very smart in a new suit – and we have lovely photos of them. Mrs P Down, Norfolk
