He’s best known for being a cantankerous grump, so there’s television karma for Karl Pilkington as he’s followed around by his miserable alter ego in this new comedy drama.

Karl, who originally shot to fame on podcasts with Ricky Gervais and has since presented travel docs Idiot Abroad and The Moaning of Life, has co-created this sitcom, giving him a chance to try on his acting boots. Karl BBC2, 7pm

plays Karl, a fictionalised version of himself, as well as another Karl, a manifestation of the inner voice inside his head. While Karl No.1 goes about his life, Karl No. 2 is always there to impart wisdom, dish out criticism and share his view on life.

Tonight’s double bill begins with a recently-dumped Karl and his auntie Norma, who he lives with, holding a wake for uncle Vinnie at the house. Best bits include a troublesome yellow sofa, a cameo from Line of Duty’s Craig Parkinson, and a great soundtrack.
