Jezza’s food for thought

-

I’M not the greatest fan of politicians interfering in football as a means to win popularity.

As their approach is often to highlight the greed and lack of moral fibre in the game, failing to understand how a quick Google of their expenses returns shows them for the hypocrites they are.

So it was refreshing to watch Jeremy Corbyn visit the Fans Supporting Foodbanks mobile station at Anfield on Saturday and pay tribute to supporters of both the city’s clubs who collect massive amounts of food every matchday to be distributed to struggling families.

Fans groups, and also certain clubs and players, do a hell of a lot for their communities these days and deserve all the praise and good publicity that comes their way.

Corbyn said: “Huge amounts of food are donated here before matches for food banks – last year providing 11,000 meals for families across the city. Record levels of food bank use is a national scandal but people coming together to help others is inspirational.”

Hear, hear.
