Must care for elderly

New Office for National Statistics figures show there are now 14,430 centenarians in Britain (Mirror, Sept 26) and 579,776 people aged over 90.

At Anchor, we’re proud to have more than 1,900 people over 90 living with us. However, this rise reminds us we need to prioritise their needs in society.

The Government must ensure good social care, housing and healthcare remains at the top of its agenda. The appointment of a dedicated Minister for Older People would send a clear message that Government is serious about addressing the needs of today’s and future generations of older people.
