Corbyn talks Brexit plans with EU boss

- BY ANDREW GREGORY

JEREMY Corbyn urged the EU’s chief negotiator to stop a no-deal Brexit and avoid a hard Irish border.

The Labour leader and Shadow Brexit Secretary Sir Keir Starmer met Michel Barnier in Brussels yesterday.

Mr Barnier offered no opinion on Labour’s proposals, which favour our remaining in a customs union with the EU.

Mr Corbyn said: “It’s not a negotiation, it’s us informing him of what our views are and him telling us the state of play.”

Tory chairman Brandon Lewis yesterday dismissed Labour’s plan, saying it “would not allow us to do global trade deals”.

Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt called for calm over Brexit and backed “tough and resilient” PM Theresa May.
