Watch your back

-

Fair play to former Home Secretary Alan Johnson for pointing out some of the glaring errors in the Bodyguard TV script, which had more holes in it than Theresa May’s Chequers plan. Talking of which, wasn’t Alan the man Labour put in charge of its Remain campaign during the 2016 referendum? What a shame he wasn’t as convincing pointing out all the many errors in the Leave script that cried out at us from the side of a bus. Whenever I flick through men’s magazines I come across the smuggest advert ever made. It’s for wrist watches that cost between £40k and £2million, and there’s always a picture of a dad smiling at his son with the words: “You never actually own a Patek Philippe watch. You merely look after it for the next generation.”

And the same thought always goes through my head: What you’re actually advocating is inheritence tax avoidance, meaning we surely have a right to hack that watch off your wrist at death.
