1m miss out on tax break
A MILLION couples are missing out on £238 a year by failing to claim the Marriage Allowance tax break.
Up to £900million has gone unclaimed as only 3.2 million of the 4.2 million eligible couples have applied since the scheme was introduced in 2015.
It lets people transfer £1,190 of their personal allowance to a husband, wife or civil partner if that person earns more.
Lib Dem MP Layla Moran said the allowance was a “pathetic failure” and called for it to be scrapped.
