JOSE: NO PLAYER’S BIGGER THAN UNITED
JOSE MOURINHO has told Paul Pogba “no player is bigger than Manchester United” following their trainingground bust-up. Mourinho (left) and Pogba clashed this week, with TV cameras filming the hostile exchange and laying bare the ongoing tensions between them. The United boss had stripped Pogba (left) of the vice-captaincy before the spat, with Mourinho warning the £89million midfielder the club always comes first. “He is a player like the others,” said
Mourinho. “No player is bigger than the club and if I’m happy with his work he plays. If I’m not happy, he doesn’t play. Manchester United is bigger than anyone and I have to defend that.”
Despite their trainingground spat and clear differences, Mourinho said no one had trained better than Pogba this week and confirmed the midfielder will start today at West Ham.
“I’m happy with his work this week, really happy, and tomorrow he plays, so end of the story.
“The team needs good players, players with the personality to play – he has that and he plays tomorrow. But what happened the other day happens often. Loud criticism, loud instruction. Coaching is about that.
“After weeks of analysing and exchanging opinions with my coaching staff, we made the decision Paul is just a player and not a captain.”
