ON VIRG OF RED RECALL

- BY DAVID MADDOCK

VIRGIL VAN DIJK will force himself through the pain barrier to play at Chelsea this evening.

That’s the prediction of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who has been sweating on the fitness of his big defender.

The Dutchman (above, left) has a rib injury but Klopp said: “Virgil will try everything to be ready.

“The boys play constantly with pain. And if you have no pain before the game, then you will have it after the first challenge. That is how football is. What’s important is how you deal with the pain and if he is able to deal with it then he can play.”

Klopp (above, right) is looking forward to another pulsating game against the Blues after the midweek League Cup drama.

“The Chelsea team of the last two years were perfectly organised with good defending,” the German said.

“They didn’t park the bus but they were a very good defensive team with world-class players.

“Now it is different. We will have our chances. Each team has had chances against Chelsea so far this season.

Klopp also has full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and midfielder Gini Wijnaldum fit after midweek fitness concerns.
