Cuts ‘leaving carers close to breaking’

-

UNPAID carers are “at breaking point” due to lack of official support.

Accounts from more than 5,000 family carers in a Healthwatch report show cut-back services mean OAPs end up in A&E and shunted to care homes.

Councils must assess the needs of unpaid carers but 51 of 152 have no record of those in their area.

The Mirror has launched the Care For All campaign after the Tories cut state funding of social care, down 27% since 2010.

Emily Holzhausen, of Carers UK, said: “Healthwatch England highlights the intense pressures unpaid carers face.”
