Corrie loco to relive last steam jaunt

- BY PAUL BYRNE

A LOCOMOTIVE that hauled British Rail’s last steam-operated passenger train is to repeat the historic journey 50 years later.

Loco 44871, which has featured in Coronation Street, will pull The Citadel Express on the second leg of the Manchester to Carlisle return trip on the stunning Settle-Carlisle line next month.

A spokesman for West Coast Railways said: “Everything will be just the same as on the original train 50 years ago – apart from the catering.

“Instead of limp British Rail sandwiches, stale pork pies and weak milky tea, we’ll have a top chef on board serving breakfast and a four-course dinner.”

Tickets for the trips on November 8 and 10 will start at £120.
