Jamie Oliver has experience­d a metamorpho­sis over the years. Back in the late 90s, he was the Naked Chef, screaming “Pukka” at every given opportunit­y.

Then there was a mentoring phase, with shows like Jamie’s Kitchen. He moved seamlessly into campaignin­g for healthy school dinners and, of course, we’ve had his 30-Minute Meals, 15-Minute Meals, fish meals, summer meals, British meals, money-saving meals, superfood meals, quick and easy meals... it’s a wonder they could come up with anything new.

But this series, which has seen Jamie visit the mammas and nonnas of Italy has been one of the most charming.

As they teach him homecooked recipes, they love him as much as he loves them.

As it concludes, Jamie and Gennaro Contaldo are in the Italian Alps seeking out comfort food. In a remote valley, they discover a mind-blowing macaroni cheese with an alpine twist. And Jamie learns the kitchen secrets of the real risotto queens. Pukka! TROUBLE John Simm as Jonah
