A woman and two children run past burning vehicles and debris during a riot on Princes Road in Toxteth, Liverpool. The violence was sparked by the arrest of four local black men in connection with a stabbing. The Merseyside Police Operationa­l Support Division was deployed to restore order, but were later slammed by community leaders for their “over zealous and provocativ­e tactics” including the drumming of batons on riot shields.
