Today’s picture shows nurses on the Incubation Ward at Birmingham Maternity Hospital attending Britain’s first sextuplets. All six babies, born two months prematurely to Sheila Thorns, were placed in incubators after being delivered, but one, a girl, died soon afterwards while being given a blood transfusion. Two more also died later. The three surviving babies, Roger, Susan and Julie, celebrate their 50th birthday today.
