Today’s picture shows nurses on the Incubation Ward at Birmingham Maternity Hospital attending Britain’s first sextuplets. All six babies, born two months prematurel­y to Sheila Thorns, were placed in incubators after being delivered, but one, a girl, died soon afterwards while being given a blood transfusio­n. Two more also died later. The three surviving babies, Roger, Susan and Julie, celebrate their 50th birthday today.
