King Kev: Toon’s been nightmare for 10 years

-

KEVIN KEEGAN says Newcastle have been a “nightmare for 10 years” under owner Mike Ashley.

The former Toon boss lasted only eight months at St James’ Park during his second spell in charge in 2008 after a fall-out with the board.

And Keegan (right) believes

the situation has not improved since with the team again struggling in the Premier League.

Keegan said his relationship with the club was “not good” and added: “When I went back to manage it seemed like the ideal situation.

“I knew the club, knew what the fans wanted, the man in charge, we thought we had money to spend, it looked like a dream ticket.

“But it was a nightmare and the nightmare has continued for 10 years now. It has been a difficult time, but the club will be there when the man’s gone.”

The former England boss, speaking on Radio 5 live, added: “It is a real lesson in where football is going – people come from afar who don’t get what the club is – they are buying a brand. You have to choose carefully who to sell the club to.”

Fans have been protesting (left) against Ashley, who attended Saturday’s 2-0 defeat by Leicester – his first home game since May 2017.
