Man in court over family of 8 killed in fire
A MAN was due in court today after being extradited from Pakistan over a fire that killed eight members of the same family.
Shahid Mohammed, 36, held in Rawalpindi in 2015, was being flown in to face charges of murdering five children and three adults.
It is just the second extradition from Pakistan in 10 years.
A mum of 35, her daughters aged, 10, five, three, two, and six months, her brother, 18, and mother, 54, died in a house fire in Huddersfield in 2002.
Police thanked Pakistan’s authorities and paid tribute to the family, who “have shown such dignity”.
Mohammed, who fled before a trial in 2003 where three men were jailed, was due to appear before Leeds magistrates today.
