Kyle gets all the breaks

BRITISH No.1 Kyle Edmund is through to the quarter-finals of the China Open after a three-set victory against Matteo Berrettini.

Edmund overcame the Italian qualifier 7-5 6-7 (2-7) 7-5 in Beijing. He made the perfect start by breaking Berrettini’s opening service game and broke again to take the first set.

The second set went to a tiebreak, which Berrettini won comfortabl­y.

In the deciding set Edmund had to save a break point before serving out for the victory. He will face qualifier Dusan Lajovic in the last eight.

SALFORD have secured Australian half-back Jackson Hastings for 2019.

The former Manly player, 22, helped them to victory in all of his six matches to secure their survival in Super League and has signed a 12-month deal.

Salford coach Ian Watson said: “It is a great piece of business by the club and for Super League.”
