LEIGH NEED LOAN STARS FOR SHIELD CLASH
RELEGATED Leigh have special dispensation to sign loan players for Sunday’s Championship Shield final after claiming they were down to nine fit men.
Both the Centurions and opponents Featherstone, who have also recently fielded teams short of players, can bring in short-term signings as long as they have not featured in Super League.
It comes as Leigh players have failed to receive payments for September amid a financial restructuring based around owner Derek Beaumont’s intention to leave at the end of the season. Six players have not reached compromise agreements and have not been paid – though the club insists none have refused to play.
Their current player shortage is instead down to “unprecedented” injuries after they fielded just 13 men against Dewsbury on Sunday.
The Centurions, relegated after one season back in Super League when they lost last year’s Million Pound Game to Catalans, have had no expressions of interest from potential new investors.
