‘BEING NO.1 IS BEST’

- BY HECTOR NUNNS

MARK SELBY defended his status to world No.1 rival Mark Williams – who claims the top ranking is worthless.

Three-time world champion Selby (right), on top of the pile for 190 weeks in a row, beat Mark Davis 4-2 last night to make the last 16 of the European Masters in Belgium. Selby’s No.1 spot is under threat from Williams and Ronnie O’Sullivan. And Selby said: “I half understand where Mark is coming from saying he doesn’t care about it, as we all come in the same round now regardless. But being No.1 is important to me. Keeping it will be fantastic.”
