Today’s picture shows a cigar-smoking Norman Wisdom in the musical Where’s Charley? Wisdom, who died eight years ago today aged 95, was not only a star in the West End and on Broadway, he was also a celebrity in South America, Iran and the Eastern bloc. In Albania his were the only Western films permitted by dictator Enver Hoxha. Later he had roles in Coronation Street and Last of the Summer Wine.
