■ Is there no end to the ways that this out of touch Tory Government fails to prioritise the “just about managing” wage earners in this country?

It is only now, after a long time in office, that the Prime Minister sees the sense that staff working in restaurant­s and other eateries should be able to receive the full benefit of gratuities left by customers, rather than the owners of those establishm­ents diverting some of that money into their own pockets.

■ I completely agree with J Butler about people being obsessed with technology (Your Voice, Oct 2). Mobile phones have created a species who can’t bear to drag their eyes away from them and I was also flabbergas­ted to see people queueing for the latest iPhone.

■ Life will be better under a Labour government because their policies include the poor, not just the rich.

But the best thing is that they bring hope for a better and fairer Britain, and that is what we all desperatel­y need right now.

The Tories have failed due to their obsession with wealth and power for the few. The people deserve better – and a leader who is not afraid of the power of the rich, and who brings equality to all. Irene Sepion, South West London
