‘Brexit body blow’ to May from EU boss

- BY MIKEY SMITH Political Reporter

THERESA May has been left humiliated as EU chief Donald Tusk seemed to side with hardline Tory Brexiteers opposed to her Chequers plan.

In a slapdown timed for the day after her keynote speech to the Conservative conference, he offered the kind of deal backed by ex-Brexit Secretary David Davis and Jacob ReesMogg over her plan.

He added Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt had been “insulting”by comparing the EU to the Soviet Union.

The PM’s team has days to finalise a Brexit deal ahead of crunch EU talks.

CAR giant Nissan, which employs about 8,000 people in the UK, has said a hard Brexit would have “serious implications” for its Sunderland factory.
