Rail numbers rising again
DEMAND for rail travel is on the up after a decline.
Some 429 million passenger journeys were made between April and June, up 3.1% year-on-year.
The Office of Rail and Road put it down to a 3.5% rise in journeys in London and the South-East.
The previous 12 months saw the first drop in passengers for eight years.
Paul Plummer, of the Rail Delivery Group, said: “Return to growth underlines the importance of delivering our long-term plan for new services.”
