Newts saved by sniff dog

A WATER firm is using a sniffer dog to avoid harming newts as it lays pipes.

Spaniel Freya is trained to detect the protected great crested species.

Wessex Water, which covers Wiltshire, Somerset, Bristol and Dorset, claims it is the first time a dog has been used in this way.
