I’d like to comment on the letter from the 74-year-old widower whose children won’t give their blessing for him to remarry (Dear Coleen, Sept 25). I think marriage is really only important if you’re having children, but if both partners are over 70, why can’t they just live together in a loving relationsh­ip, which surely their children cannot complain about?

And anything to do with finances, should either partner pass away, can be easily resolved by relevant legal wills. D Neve, Silsden, West Yorks
