Ian McCulloch had the hair, the looks and voice in the first flowering of The Bunnymen’s postpunk prime. But coming out of the gate here with a new version of their old classic Bring On The Dancing Horses, that voice sounds pinched, affected and worn through age. Nothing much happens to the retreads of old favourites – including Rescue, Ocean Rain and Lips Like Sugar – to make the originals feel improved upon. Quite the opposite, in fact. Mac reckons he’s improving upon them. He’s deluded.
