21ST CENTURY BOY

Wonderkid Sancho, 18, makes Three Lions history as boss Southgate hails his ‘bravery’ for City-to-Dortmund switch

- BY JOHN CROSS

JADON SANCHO was hailed as “brave” after becoming the first player born in this millennium to be called up by England.

The Borussia Dortmund teenager, born in March 2000, is part of Gareth Southgate’s latest revolution as one of three new call-ups with Derby’s on-loan

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, 19, and Leicester playmaker James Maddison, 21.

England manager Southgate praised Sancho, 18, for quitting Manchester City for Dortmund in search of first-team football, saying: “Jadon’s is an unusual story for a young English player.

“He’s been brave enough to go abroad and play at a big club in front of big support every week, and with the physiological strength to deal with it and excel.

“He’s started two Champions League games for Dortmund and has tremendous self belief.”

With Dele Alli and Jesse Lingard injured, Harry Winks and Ross Barkley (above) got recalls.
