Kane: We went through a spell when the critics thought it was the end of the world for us.. but we will stay calm, go under the radar and let the other title rivals take centre stage, then see where we are

Dier FROM the end of the world they are on top of the world.

Harry Kane allowed himself a wry smile at the overreaction to Tottenham’s tricky start to the season which now seems a distant memory.

Eric Dier’s first goal since April 2017 means the north Londoners’ 18 points after eight games equals their best start to a Premier League campaign.

It also lifted them right into the title mix – within striking distance of leaders Manchester City and Liverpool after they shared the points.

Before a ball had been kicked Spurs were accused of letting Mauricio Pochettino down in the transfer market. In fact, they were battered for being the only club in the top flight not to make a single signing.

After three wins on the spin – including that stunning victory at Manchester United –

Tottenham are unbeaten in their last 38 Premier League home games against promoted sides (W35 D3).

Cardiff are winless in their first eight games to a league season for the third time, and first since 1989-90 in the old Division Three.

Tottenham were praised for keeping their squad together, particularly the likes of Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose (having a row with Cardiff boss Neil Warnock, right).

But defeats against Watford, Liverpool and Inter Milan saw Spurs back under the cosh again.

By Saturday evening they had bounced back from being outclassed by Lionel Messi and Barcelona and seen off 10-man Cardiff with the minimum of fuss.

“Obviously, we went through Premier League games, their worst run ever in the competition.

Tottenham have scored at least once in each of their last 19 Premier League home games, the longest current run in the competition.

Cardiff had six shots on target in this match, the most they’ve

that spell where everyone thought it was the end of the world,” said Kane. “We’ve come out of the other side and we’ve done alright.

“We are not far off the top. Liverpool and Man City played on Sunday and it’s like most seasons – we just stay calm and stay under the radar.

“Everyone talks about everyone else and we’ll just see if we can go on a good run between now and Christmas and we’ll see where that puts us.”

Funnily enough, October has been a tricky month for Spurs in managed in a Premier League game this season.

Cardiff remain the only side Tottenham striker Harry Kane has faced but not scored against in the Premier League. The England forward had six shots on Saturday , more than any other player in the match.

recent seasons. Last year they managed just two wins out of five in all competitions. The year before only one from six, and one from five the year before that.

After the international break, Pochettino’s men go to West Ham and PSV Eindhoven before hosting Manchester City.

They then travel to the Hammers again in the League Cup and Wolves in the Premier League. A tough old schedule.

Set against that, Spurs should have Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen back fit by then. Son He sc ha Bo
