MULGREW: WE’RE NOT HALF BRAD

- BY LIZ BYRNES

CHARLIE MULGREW refuses to settle for Blackburn being in the Championship top 10 going into the international break.

A goal from Bradley Dack – his sixth of the season – saw Tony Mowbray’s side bounce back from defeat by Sheffield United.

Mulgrew paid tribute to Dack (above) but pointed to the contribution of less-heralded players in the team.

He said: “Bradley gets in that area but I can name 18 players here who have worked hard and played their part so far.

“It takes more than just putting the ball in the back of the net, even though we are thankful to have him. He’s a top player and it’s a great finish.

“I can’t speak highly enough of Bradley but there are a lot of other players who do the dirty side of the game – and we’re happy to have them as well.”

Rovers were grateful to goalkeeper David Raya, who pulled off fine saves from Will Buckley and Josh Magennis.

Blackburn were relieved not to concede a late penalty when captain Mulgrew brought down Christian Doidge, only for the forward to be ruled offside.

Rovers have adapted well to life back in the Championship – but Mulgrew is not content in a comfort zone.

He said: “It’s a fairly solid start but human nature is to look at what can be better.

“A couple of last-minute goals and a couple of other things going our way, then we could be further up. We will keep fighting every game with a game plan.

“We are happy but we want to push on and do better.”
