Tesco scraps best by dates in waste war

He takes snap on his phone DITCHED Best before labels TESCO is scrapping best before dates on more than 100 products in its battle against food waste.

Fresh fruit and veg packaging will no longer carry the labels.

The store has pledged to prevent edible food from being dumped and is 70% towards hitting its target.

Tesco’s Mark Little said: “Removing best before dates is our way of making it easier for customers to reduce food waste at home and save money in the process.

“It’s simply not right that food goes to waste.”

Tesco earlier removed best before dates from 70 fresh fruit and veg lines.

The UK’s annual food waste bill is £20billion, with £700 worth being dumped by households.
