Diego brands drugs smears as a cover-up
DIEGO Maradona claims he was made a scapegoat with publicity surrounding his battle with drugs.
The Argentina football legend said: “They took advantage of me to save the drug addict children of politicians and managers.”
Maradona, 57, who played in four Word Cups and is now a club boss in Mexico, added: “Don’t think only the kid scraping the barrel takes drugs.
“In Argentina, there are people who take drugs who are from good stock. I’ve taken drugs with them.
“There are a lot of masks. Those who are getting rich are also full of cocaine.”
But Maradona, who “got over the addiction 15 years ago”, admitted he was wrong to indulge, saying: “When I was taking drugs, it was a step backwards.”
