Newcastle to get Europe’s tallest wheel
TOWERING The Whey Aye EUROPE’S biggest London Eye-style wheel is set to be installed in Newcastle.
The 460ft structure, 16ft taller than the capital’s, has been nicknamed Whey Aye after the Geordie saying for “yes, of course”.
It will have a worldrecord breaking 105,000sq metre LED digital screen as its centre piece.
A 39 ft “Geordie giant” will stand next to it on Newcastle Quayside.
The £100million development, creating 550 jobs, aims to make Tyneside one of Europe’s best waterfront experiences with five-a-side pitches, tennis courts and a golf club.
Phil Lynagh, boss of World Wheel Company’s Newcastle operation, said: “This will create local jobs and ongoing revenue for the regional economy.”
