Family see dad die at half marathon

TRAGEDY The Fletchers A 32-YEAR-OLD dad collapsed and went into cardiac arrest in front of his wife and little girl moments after crossing the finish line of the Cardiff Half Marathon.

Accountant Dean Fletcher was described as an “amazing husband and father” to wife Katie and daughter Evie.

Mr Fletcher, from Exeter, had previously taken part in the 13-mile event. Friends said he loved to return to Cardiff where he graduated 10 years ago and met his wife.

Y Vgirlfrien­d of a second runner who also collapsed and died, has spoken of her “heartbreak”. The couple both took part but Ben McDonald, 25, suffered a cardiac arrest after finishing on Sunday.

Ms Stanton-Foo said he was a “happy, smiley, adventurou­s, loving person”.

Mr McDonald, from Cardiff, died in hospital, with his parents at his bedside.

Organiser Run 4 Wales said its team was “devastated”. It is to do a review but is “100% satisfied” about its medical plans.
