Brexit: It’s time we had Project Fact

Firstly, because the ardent Leavers say it would be undemocratic for the people to have the chance to change their minds.

Do we not have the opportunity to do exactly that at every General, European or local election?

Secondly, I question the Brexiteers’ belief that everything was well in Britain before we joined the EEC or Common Market, as it was then.

My recollection of the times is that the economy was in a steady decline and inflation rampant.

The Brexiteers crave a return to what they seem to think were halcyon days and claim any other view amounts to Project Fear.

I believe what we really need is Project Fact. We now know much more about the implications of leaving and will know exactly what we are letting ourselves in for when the result of the negotiations is known. The Government should be truly democratic and give the people a second chance based on the reality of the agreement.

■ People are calling for another EU referendum because they say we were told lies. I should think this is the case at every General Election as we never get what was promised.

So what’s new? The Government toyed with the idea of a referendum for five years and when it happened, they lost and Mr Cameron walked away. Things have now been Peter Richards, Neath, Port Talbot

■ I won’t ever be able to bring myself to support Brexit and believe this to be the case for many others as well.

Even when the deal is done – and hopefully it will be a good one – I think Britain will be in a state of flux for a long time and many will experience hardship a lot worse than now. In the name of compassion, rescind this decision while we still can.

■ I am getting fed up with people saying they want a second referendum. If it had gone the other way and the vote was to stay, would the Leavers be

With the Tories now strongly placed as the Brexit Party, as well as the nasty party, isn’t it about time Jeremy Corbyn stopped supporting these nasties and made Labour the Remain Party - for the many, not the few?

We are regularly told most Labour voters are Remainers and we desperately need an opposition party that can be trusted in deeds, not just words. What is the point of Labour forcing an election if they continue to support Brexit?

■ For Labour to support a second EU referendum is going against the wishes of the people who voted to leave the EU. What concerns me is that large areas of the North, which are strongly Labour, may feel let down and the party could lose a lot of support. If Labour continue to support Remain they will, I fear, remain in opposition. Errol Tollett Coventry
