Gunners still unconvincing

-

SOME of the Gooners who travelled across London to Fulham on Sunday were singing “We’ve got our Arsenal back” at the end of their 5-1 win.

But I’m sorry, Arsenal fans, I’m just not getting too excited yet.

The vast majority of your players are still those Arsene Wenger left and that means your side will win 90 per cent of their games and lose the other fixtures they’re expected to lose, and that means no titles.

So, yes, there is a freshness and they haven’t been defeated for nine games, but I’m not getting too carried away with Unai Emery at this stage.

While we’re on Arsenal, I’m not surprised the club have withdrawn Aaron Ramsey’s contract offer. It is the right call for both parties.

Emery (above) wants to go in a different direction and wants to be more aggressive, which is good.

But it’s the right time for Ramsey as well.

Players can stay too long at a club and he could easily go to a top-six side and be a very good option, or to an upwardly mobile outfit such as Wolves and add vital experience and even more quality.

THE most pleasing thing about Liverpool’s goalless draw against Manchester City on Sunday was the fact they looked more like a team challenging for the title than the maverick, hit-and-miss side they have been in the past couple of seasons.

We’ve known they can beat anyone on their day but that they could also have two or three games go against them.

At the weekend, however, they did not look like a side for whom the latter was still the case.
