Air pollution could be oral cancer cause
EXPOSURE to high levels of air pollution has been linked to oral cancer.
Scientists in Taiwan examined data from sources including the nation’s air quality database and cancer records.
Tracking the health of about 480,000 men, they found an increased risk of mouth cancer in those exposed to higher concentrations of fine particulate matter – a type of air pollutant.
The experts published their study in the Journal of Investigative Medicine.
They said: “The mechanism through which this occurs is not clearly understood, hence further investigations are required.”
