Coroner: More will die unless Pret improves allergy labels
A CORONER warned yesterday that “future deaths could occur” unless Pret a Manger changes its food labelling.
It comes after two people died from allergic reactions.
Dr Sean Cummings said in a report yesterday: “There is a risk that future deaths could occur unless action is taken.”
He said that allergens were not “labelled adequately or clearly” on DEATH Natasha Ednan-Laperouse Pret foods, and its practices were “a device to evade regulation”. He called for a “robust safety auditing system”. Pret said last week it will introduce a full list of ingredients on all its food. But the coroner said: “The previous system was unsafe and the system proposed equally so, in my view.” The Government, Pret and others must reply by December 3. Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, 15, died in 2016. Celia Marsh, 42, died in 2017.
