Smith faces her demons on emotional return to roots
SHERIDAN Smith’s return home in the wake of her dad’s death was an “emotional rollercoaster”.
The singer and actress went back to her northern roots for the first time since his death in 2016 for a documentary. In Sheridan Smith: Coming Home, she confronts her personal troubles and faces up to her past.
Award-winner Smith, 37, raised in Epworth, Lincs, also returns to a club in nearby Doncaster where she used to perform with her parents. The Cilla star said: “Filming this documentary has been an incredible emotional rollercoaster.
“Re-visiting old haunts and finally performing at the Bentley Top Club where my parents featured regularly has been a very therapeutic experience, and has made me realise just how important my roots, family and friends are.”
ITV’s head of entertainment Siobhan Greene said: “It’s a neverbefore-seen insight into her real life and how that’s inspired her music.”
