Volcano tidal wave danger

THE volcano Mount Etna is sliding into the sea threatening a tsunami, research is warning.

The Sicilian mountain has a weakened side and is gradually collapsing.

Dr Morelia Urlaub, of Germany’s Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research, said: “This movement is important… it could lead to a catastrophic collapse.”

Etna, constantly erupting since 2014, killed two tourists in 1987 and destroyed at least 10 villages in the 17th century.
