1 in 5 keep an illness secret
SOME 20% of over-50s are suffering in silence with a secret health problem.
Researchers found they refused to tell loved ones about issues like hearing loss, heart disease, arthritis and mental illness.
Six in 10 said they did not want to worry relatives and 29% felt “too embarrassed”, according to a poll of 2,000 people for Signia.
The hearing aid firm’s Maarten Barmentlo said: “Carrying the worries of a health issue can do more harm than good.”
