PM faces boot from No 10 as Ministers plot over takeout how to kill her Brexit fudge

- BY ANDREW GREGORY Political Editor

THERESA May is facing the biggest threat to her premiership so far, with a two-pronged attack from warring Tories over her Brexit plan.

Brexiteer Cabinet Ministers will tonight plot over pizza how to kill it off, which could lead to the PM’s downfall.

And last night 44 letters demanding a vote of no-confidence in the PM had been submitted to the Conservative 1922 Committee by Tory MPs.

Just four more are required to trigger a ballot, which could result in Mrs May being dumped from No10.

Its latest meeting comes ahead of an EU summit on Wednesday. At least nine ministers want Mrs May to drop her plan when the Cabinet meets tomorrow.

Former Brexit Secretary David Davis yesterday urged a full-scale rebellion.

He wrote in a newspaper: “It is time for the Cabinet to exert their collective authority. This week the authority of our constitution is on the line.”

His successor Dominic Raab last night returned empty-handed from Brussels, following speculation that Britain had sealed a secret deal with EU chiefs.

Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt said the last-minute talks were a bid to make progress on issues such as the Northern Ireland backstop, to avoid a hard border.

But the EU’s chief negotiator Michel Barnier said: “Despite intense efforts, some key issues are still open, including the backstop for IE/NI.” A Government EU exit will hit healthcare

spokesman said: “In the last few days UK and EU negotiators have made real progress in a number of key areas.

“There remain a number of unresolved issues relating to the backstop. The UK is still committed to making progress at the October European Council.”

Mr Hunt said there was “no one who is going to be able to negotiate the right deal for Britain better” than Mrs May, pictured yesterday with husband Philip at their local church in Sonning, Berks.

But critics believe the no-confidence vote threshold could be passed by Wednesday if the PM refuses to change her position. Tory MP Nadine Dorries
